Courage to Stand is a part autobiography and part advice book being put out by former governor Tim Pawlenty. Recently Pawlenty has been on a book tour going around America and speaking out, when finished with the tour Pawlenty is expected to make an announcement as to whether or not he is running for president in 2012. In his book Pawlenty offers America insight on what it is like to be a political leader in this day and age. The premise of having courage as a political leader is to stand up against government waste and be able to say “no” based on moral or fiscal judgments.

Calling himself a ‘Sam’s Club Republican’ Pawlenty describes himself as a mainstream conservative, who doesn’t just reach out to the richest folks in America. He thinks the Republican Party’s tent is a large one and should include less well-off social conservatives who are trying to make a living in this great nation.

Pawlenty discusses his budget successes in Minnesota when he has the courage to say no and cut the budget massively in an effort to fix the looming deficit. He stomped out an over four and a half billion dollar deficit in Minnesota when many politicians were begging him not to cut their special programs all while not increasing taxes by a cent. He discusses some of the most heroic fights while governor of Minnesota.

In the presidential election of 2008 McCain was vetting then governor Pawlenty to possibly be the Vice President of the United States, however the campaign decided to go with one of their other choices governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. Pawlenty doesn’t think McCain should regret his choice, as he admire Palin and her efforts for the conservative movement. He mentions her fervor has really lit up the Party and moved it further through grassroots campaigns.

From the death of his mother as an early teen to his triumphs and tribulations through making his way through school, Pawlenty reflects on his childhood and the lessons he learned growing up. Originally from South Saint Paul, Minnesota Pawlenty was raised in his later years by his father, who was a truck driver. Pawlenty says good morals and life lessons have added value to his ability to lead.

Former Texas Secretary of State from 2005-2007 is looking to campaign for the TX United States senate in the upcoming election, so far he’s obtained support from several prominent political figures, including President George W. Bush who backed his candidacy. Just like most of the conservative candidates he endorses a well balanced spending plan and says that he would absolutely pass a law that will cause it to be criminal for the federal government to spend above the expected budget plan for the financial year.

Williams endorsed downsizing the federal government by enacting enormous reform to entitlement programs such as social security benefits and Medicare. Williams wishes to have social security privatized to take the dollars out of the fiscally irresponsible government and devote that cash for investment. Medicare beneficiaries should be provided a stipend as a way to opt for their healthcare within the private arena in an effort to acquire the least expensive and most valuable remedies to medical needs.

Williams approves of either a flat as well as FairTax strategy and believes either program would be better than today’s messy tax code that provides clauses to get out of paying taxes as well as hindrances to corporations that are trying to thrive. A flat tax would institute a predetermined percentage that each individual pays on earnings and takes away the complicated tax rules altogether. The Fair tax would remove all federal, state and other taxation and put into practice a product sales tax where you spend the money for taxes on bought items.

Like all republican 2012 hopefuls in the state Roger Williams discusses the challenge of unlawful laborers by indicating we should boost border security and safety and develop a hard stand on individuals that come across our border illegitimately, his political campaign web page does not say exactly how he’d make this happen. He pushes harder by stating those which get to the back of the line and travel in America with permission need to be required to master the English language therefore we ought to pass a law to make English our established language for the nation.

Williams addresses traditional conservative issues as well saying he’s unquestionably always been Pro life and believes that when a women’s egg is fertilized life begins and does not end till normal death, he declares he does not want anyone ‘messing’ with 2nd amendment protection under the law, and he believes that a partnership requires one man and one woman. He would take a stand to combat with any regulation that attempts to transform marriage.

Williams could have a substantial support system simply because he is a well known figure when compared to some of the other republican challengers for the position. He was initially employed by Perry for the position as Secretary of State in ’05 until he handed in his resignation in 2007 to explore other career opportunities. He might hold a good early edge if he is able to boost cash for his election run.

New Mexico’s ex governor just may be getting ready to run for president in 2012. There have been plenty of rumors due to the launch of his recent 501(c)(3) organization called Our America Initiative and his new book titled, “7 Principles of Good Government”. However he has mentioned that he can not make an official statement due to the development of non-profit which restricts his ability to make statements on political campaigns. Johnson, as of recent, has been doing a lot of traveling around America and engaging in speaking events which has led many people to believe he might indeed run this election cycle.

Johnson won’t say whether or not he is running in 2012 and has been busy doing speeches across America while promoting his new book. His traveling has raised suspicion that is is intending on putting in a bid due to the fact he has traveled to key primary states. He has made three visits to Iowa and South Carolina, and six to New Hampshire.

Johnson appeared on Stephen Colbert’s show on May 10th 2010 which gave him a bit of bump, to paraphrase Stephen’s words. And since groups have been springing up over the country to urge a presidential run.

Through his non-profit campaign Johnson is raising the issues that America is facing today and speaking at events all over the country in order to create awareness. The first issue Johnson is facing is the overwhelming deficit America has accrued over the years. He believes this is not only a challenge, but one of the biggest threats to America. In an effort to reduce the deficit Johnson advocates we make cuts in spending to defense that fund overseas campaigns such as in Afghanistan. He argues further that if fighting and occupying Afghanistan didn’t work for the Russians it isn’t going to work for us and it will be at great cost.

He given a three pronged approach to getting our economy back on track. The first is to cut our spending. To do this he suggests that America make some cuts to programs such as medicare, medicaid, and social security. The second prong is to cut taxes and stop taxing investment and savings and to simplify the tax code. The last prong for is to limit government involvement in the economy itself. He wants to put an end to corporate bailouts, funding of special interests with tax payers dollars, place restrictions on the federal reserve, and broaden free trade.

Marked by controversy, Johnson’s belief that marijuana should be legally taxed and regulated by the United States government has proven to make some conservatives question his seriousness as a political candidate. However, Johnson argues his point well by declaring marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol. He admits both are negative substances and shouldn’t be encouraged, but that doesn’t mean marijuana should be excluded from legalization. Putting people in jail for marijuana crimes is a burden on tax payers dollars and if users are not harming others by risky behavior, such as driving under the influence, then there should be no criminal penalty. His stance on more dangerous drugs, for example heroin, is that it should be decriminalized (not legalized) in a manner where people are able to fix the problem of their addiction in treatment centers, rather than being placed in jail.

The media has been in a frenzy to get this question answered from Palin in the last few weeks -will you run for president in 2012? Palin has said that if there isn’t an effective candidate in the race then she will be forced to take the reins and officially enter the race. But as a republican? We can’t be entirely sure.

May 2nd is the first official Republican presidential primary debate and Palin has chosen to skip it, instead opting to speak in Denver at a speaking event for the American soldiers. Many see this as an indication that Palin won’t run for president in 2012, but don’t write her off yet. If a Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney look like they will emerge as victors from the republican primary, then Palin might just run as an independent providing the Tea Party with a more likable candidate.

Palin was not dismissed from her role as a commentator on Fox News, like her republican colleagues Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. However, maybe she is going rogue on this one and will ultimately decide later to run either as a republican or an independent. In a Fox interview she declared she was months away from an official statement, yet months from now would put her drastically behind the rest of the republican contenders.

In a recent statement Palin informed the BBC that finances would play a major factor in her decision to run, she reflected on Obama’s billion dollars that he is ready to spend to defend his seat in the White House. Commentators both on the right and left have argued that Palin’s media popularity outweighs her popularity as an electable candidate. However she does have a strong following and has ranked third in a recent political poll for republican contenders in the 2012 election, this ultimately could propel her into the election. Palin told the BBC that she will keep addressing the issues until she is ready to make a more candid announcement.

Some conservatives argue that Palin’s many political mistakes would make her a bad choice as the republican presidential candidate and many democrats pray that she is nominated. However, supporters argue that the media dissects her every word and spins it as they would like. Palin’s leading gaffe happened at a Tea Party event early last year when she was caught reading notes written on her hand.

Republican Texas representative Ron Paul, could possibly be contemplating a run in 2012 after his stop by in NH last Thursday. While addressing the audience he blasted his fellow republicans for lowering National Public Radio government aid though granting immeasurable capital for the war in the Middle East. Paul was also at Iowa a few weeks ago and proclaimed, that if People in America don’t have a candidate that’s monetarily ready to handle the financial disaster he then would have hardly any other option than to run for president. Congressman Paul’s son Rand Paul and recently elected American Kentucky Senator proclaimed he may announce his candidacy if his dad chooses pass on this year’s election.

While most of the conservative challengers are anticipated to make announcements relatively soon, The Texas congressman has still remained on the fence with regards to running for president. However as the additional prospects officially go into the election, it may offer a reason for Paul to run against unfavorable competitors. Paul has led within the CPAC polls both in 2010 and 2011 and it could possibly be because of his genuine speeches on the issues of government waste. Congressman Paul’s motivation for trying to get the position as President of the United States is definitely to solve This country’s problems, instead of self-centered motives. Nevertheless, he wonders about making it through the actual republican elections. Congressman Paul desires to reduce government spending and regulations within an serious manner and feels most of the time that republicans are not for a reduced American government. Having hardly any United States involvement in oversea wars and building diminished federal government participation on family value issues has some christian republicans worried.

Looking at the latest Rasmussen poll, Paul is basically tied with Barack Obama in the event the normal election would begin right now. This is certainly far better than the other conservative prospects which are somewhat behind Barack Obama in the same polls. Additionally Ron Paul has an unbelievably large lead among independent Americans , 42 percent for Republican congressman Ron Paul to President Barack Obama’s 28 percent.

Paul will surely have to encounter the christian republicans in Iowa that fret with regards to his stance on gay and lesbian civil unions. Republican congressman Ron Paul has stated time and again he will be against legal guidelines at the national level that lessen liberties to individuals thus he cast a vote to end “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” in the armed forces. He’s said that homosexuals shouldn’t be discharged if they’re not making an interference. Having said that, Ron Paul won’t approve of legislation that authorize gay and lesbian unions on a federal level. Ron Paul feels legislation that deal with these kinds of concerns should be dealt with by states.

As part of his talk in Iowa Republican congressman Ron Paul has contrasted our present-day government to a monarch, where by we now have a king that is taking all our money through taxes and managing us enough where our whole entire government is splitting at the seams. He explained jokingly we do not depend upon our family, but instead the US government and have absolutely supplied them overall control in relation to our money. He explained metaphorically that Americans at present place our revenue and our values in a bogus god and we need to modify that kind of perception.

Ron Paul suggests the Americans have been too submissive with letting the government to get rid of individual protections, to deal with this he unveiled a bill to our elected representatives which was prepared in a single passage indicating government entities shouldn’t hold the capability to do anything which American citizens lack the ability to do.
